Welcome to 2025! The weather sure has been up and down....and up and down again. So has science, as we've been exploring buoyancy! (Sorry, that joke was terrible...)
Grade 4 Science explores "Non-Contact Forces", which includes Electrostatic Magnetism, Gravity, and regular old magnetism. Fun with magnets are to come, but for now we used static to stick balloons to things! The walls, the ceilings, ourselves... We also began exploring some of the forces that work against gravity, such as buoyancy. I love a good hands-on science unit! There's nothing like actually testing for yourself if something will float, exploring the science behind it, and getting a little wet. Up next: flight!
We went on 2 field trips back to back this month: the John Reid Memorial Hockey Tournament at Servus Place and Ski Day at Rabbit Hill. The St. Albert Sabers played against Kelwona with a thrilling opening period! I was proud of our Kino kiddos for being great sports at cheering on their local team - even when things started looking rough in the 2nd. We hunt on for a win at the end!
Ski day was a blast! It could have been a liiiitle warmer, but given the Snow Squalls of the day before we certainly got lucky. Lots of new skills learned today! They were so brave to try new, hard things in a brand new environment. I can't wait to go again in February with a little practice under our belts. As one student said "maybe next time we'll learn how to stop!"
Hopefully after this frigid weekend the temperature stays where it's supposed to! Before you know it, Spring will be around the corner!
