Fractions and Friends

It's been quiet in grade 4 these days, but quiet usually means we're working hard. In math we have been diving deeper into fractions. The grade 4 math curriculum has changed this year, and we are tackling the difficult concepts of equivalent fractions. With the right tools and enough practice, we'll get there!

In science, our first unit "Light and Shadows" has wrapped up and the next unit, "Simple Machines", is my personal favourite. So many fun things to build and explore hands-on! In the spring, we will be going to Telus World of Science for even more engineering exploration.

In social, we have begun the unit project "Geographic Regions of Alberta." I am so impressed with how hard they have been working, right from the start! They have been researching regions of their choice and taking on responsibility for their own learning choices. I'm sure you will be so impressed with the final products!

In case you haven't heard, which I suspect some of you already have given how excited the students have been - we started our first novel study! We are currently reading "Wonder" by R. J. Palacio. It had such a funny start, and the interesting character has led to "can we read more??" questions each day! I love their enthusiasm for a good book.

I can't wait to brag about all your amazing children next week at parent-teacher conferences. See you soon!
